“There’s a feeling that we have failed – not you and me, but all of us. For the capitalist machinery, education can be nothing more than training. The profound philosophical desire for knowledge, understanding and meaning is being re-wired out of the system. The technocrats who are doing this are standing as celebrities, spewing out their neoliberal ideologies masked as a genuine urge for a better education. According to them, understanding and meaning are purely functional, overrated epiphenomena of evolution and brain activity. Once we’re all re-wired we won’t feel a thing. In fact, the word education might one day be erased by newspeak bureaucrats – the career academics.”
